From October 11th through the 15th, the Upward Bound Program took a trip to Los Angeles, California! This five-day adventure included visits to several renowned locations and the chance to experience various cultural customs. From the sands of Santa Monica pier, to the mountains of Hollywood, they got to see all different sides of California. The purpose of this trip was to tour colleges on the west coast and gain invaluable cultural experiences. The program took their students to a small private school, Azusa Pacific University, and the prestigious University of Southern California.

Many students had their first opportunity to experience the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, they enjoyed a Duffy boat tour and sampled a variety of cuisines from different cultures, including Asian, Mediterranean, Italian, and Hispanic, before visiting the popular Citadel Outlets mall.

During their college visits, the group also explored other attractions. They immersed themselves in different cultural experiences, visited museums, and explored iconic sites. Kylyn Drullinger, one of the students on the trip, shared her thoughts on a stop at Tio’s Tacos, known for its unique art, and a small cathedral attached to the restaurant. They also visited two art museums focused on LGBTQ experiences, Hispanic heritage, and womanhood, as well as Griffith Observatory, where they enjoyed a clear view of the Hollywood sign.
