End of Senior Year Checklist

End+of+Senior+Year+Checklist

Through the months of April and May there are many important dates that all seniors need to know. Here is a little crash course all you need to know to finish up the year strong. 

There are a few events happening in the upcoming months:

 

  • Honors Society Induction April 22, 2024
  • Literacy Night April 26, 2024
  • Gilmer Education Foundation Scholarship Night
    • Monday May 6, 6:00 pm at LWEC Gym 
    • Invites are by email
    • Dress in professional attire
  • Future Educators’ Signing Day
    • Tuesday May 7, 3:00-4:00 pm at Gilmer CCA Professional Learning Center
  • GHS Senior Awards Night
    • Monday May 13th, 6:00 pm at EES Auditorium
    • Invites are by email
    • Dress in professional attire

 

Important Deadlines:

  • CompleteFAFSA or  GSFAPPS by your last day of class (May 17)
  • If you have qualifying test scores and GPA for Zell Miller, you must submit test scores yourself
  • Georgia Student Finance Commission recommends that students complete the GSFAPPS even if you complete the FAFSA to ensure the HOPE application has been submitted.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MALE STUDENTS: https://www.sss.gov/ 

  • Selective Service
  • All males age 18 must register with SS.  It is a federal law and failure to register is a felony punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or 5 years imprisonment
  • This includes undocumented male immigrants, legal permanent residents, those seeking asylum, and refugees 
  • Georgia state law requires Selective Service registration for all males 18 years of age and older in order to qualify for state financial aid (including HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship and Grant and GTEG) and GSFC verifies

 

Classes and Final Grades:

  • If you are failing an academic, counselors may pull you from electives to double up
  • If you are failing your classes DO NOT ask for extra credit if you have unfinished work
  • Seniors not complete by May 17 will attend classes the last week of school with underclassmen

Graduation:

  • Two MANDATORY graduation practices – plan for most of the day
  • Wednesday May 22nd – 8:15 am until we get it right
  • Thursday May 23rd – 8:15 am until we get it right
  • Graduation parade at elementary and middle schools  Bring your cap and gown
  • Graduate lunch after Thursday’s practice provided by The Patty Wagon – compliments of Mr. Bowen

 

Let’s finish off this year strong and do all we have to to prepare ourselves for the next step!
